January 21 - Jacob Zuma, president of the ANC, has accepted an invitation from Vusi
Zwane, group chief corporate affairs executive of gambling giant Peermont, to
deliver the keynote address at a charity gala dinner at Emperors
Palace Casino and Resort on the Wednesday January 30th.
This banquet (previously mentioned on GamblingSA) is expected to entice
political big-shots, sporting VIPs as well as many well known guests
representing the private sector.
The event is aimed at raising funds for Sithabile Child and Youth Care Centre and Girls and Boys Towns,
all of which take care of and offer safe havens for underprivileged children.
Zuma will welcome guest of honor, retired heavyweight boxing champ,
Mike Tyson, to the proceedings. Tyson famously or infamously rather bit part of fellow
boxer, Evander Holyfield's ear off in a fight a few years ago. (Rumour has it
that Tyson enjoyed it with some fava beans and washed it down with a nice
chianti).
As the youngest boxer to win the world heavyweight crown, Tyson is acknowledged
as one of the best heavyweights of all time and, playing his part for charity,
will sign mementoes and keep-sakes that will be auctioned off on the night of
the gala dinner.
Tyson will also be whetting appetites in the prelude to the 'Fire and Brimstone'
boxing tournament that is to take place at Emperors Palace Casino and Resort on
February 2nd.
This competition will show case top South African boxers like Silence Mabuza,
Osborne Machimana and Takalani Ndlovu, as well as up and coming stars Hekkie
Budler, Grant Fourie and Warren Joubert. Tickets for the gala dinner can be
bought for R750 per person or R7500 per table.
