 May 12 - In dramatic news that is sure to thrill South African poker players,
the World Series of Poker has announced that it is making its first stop on the
African continent this year.
The organizers of the industry's greatest poker happening on a global scale,
said that WSOP Africa would be held at the Emerald Resort and Casino in
Vanderbijlpark this year.
Dates to diarize are October 24th - 31st.
According to the organizers, there will be two separate tournaments as
follows:
- A 3 day Pot Limit Omaha Tournament with a $1,199 buy in. Rebuys will be
available for $300 for 3 hours, plus an add-on of $400 at the end of the
period. The field will be limited to 200 players with starting stacks of
2,500 chips.
- A Main Event with a No Limit Texas Hold 'em Freeze Out, boasting a buy
in of $5,000. The event will be spread over four days, with each player
receiving a stack of 40,000 chips. The field will be limited to 500 players.
"This is the biggest news in poker," said the Chief Executive Officer of the
Emerald Resort and Casino, Martin Rice. "Rugby, soccer and cricket each have a
World Cup; poker has the WSOP."
"Poker has, over the past half decade, accelerated in popularity," said Rice.
"Our Emerald Poker Series and its growing fields, is testament to the unlimited
success of the sport. It is only natural to follow up on its popularity with the
greatest tournament on the planet."
