February 23 - South Africa has been gearing up for one of the biggest events in the country's sporting history - the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and Friday marked a special milestone when tickets officially went on sale for the event.
According to the FIFA website, www.FIFA.com, soccer fans could access the site and purchase the first official tickets for the event.
There are now less than five hundred days to go before the first match of this spectacular soccer happening kicks off in South Africa and organizers are encouraging soccer fans not to leave their ticket purchasing to the last minute in order to avoid disappointment.
In the meantime, the South African government is trying to make the pessimists out there eat their hats by showing that the country is truly capable of hosting the FIFA World Cup on time.
The government is insisting that the ten new stadiums that were commissioned to be built for the event are on track, and will be completed by the end of this year as planned.
The cities chosen to host the World Cup (namely Pretoria, Port Elizabeth, Nelspruit, Bloemfontein, Polokwane, Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg) have all began spectacular advertising promotions in a bid to get visiting soccer fans and their families to enjoy their locations and realize that a trip to South Africa is not only about cheering soccer sides.
The South African Tourism Board is going all out to bring potential visitors information about other forms of entertainment and places to visit during their stay in the country, including wild life safaris, casinos and shopping.
