December 7 - The Woman's World Cup of golf has been held in South Africa for the
past 3 years. The 2008 championship will be held at magnificent Sun City in the North West province.
The Woman's World Cup of golf is a truly unique event in that not only do the
competitors play for the glory of their nation, many local communities benefit
hugely from the proceeds. Community projects such as a hanging flower basket
business, education programs, HIV/Aids housing projects to mention but two, as
well as junior golf development clinics in the North West will benefit from the
competition.
Forty golfers from twenty countries will compete for a prize of $1.4 million at
Sun City.
The Championship will take place on the world renowned Gary Player Country Club
course which is also known for the Nedbank Golf Challenge ? the prestigious
men's championship when is held annually.
The Woman's World Cup of golf is a 3-day event with 54-holes which has been
slightly modified from the format in previous years. The Ladies Professional
Golf Tour and Ladies European Touring bodies still need to make their final
selections and once this is complete, full competitor biographies will be
released.
On day one, 18 holes of Betterball will be played. Day two sees Foursomes playing 18
holes, and on the third and final day, 18 holes of Betterball. Each teams score
of all 3 days will be combined to determine the winning nation.
When you are not enthralled by the golfer's skill, why not take a trip into the
past. The beautiful Lost City as legend would have it, is that of a great
civilisation which was destroyed by an earthquake.
The nomads from the northern hemisphere built their amazing palace in the lush
green valley far from prying eyes, surround by plenty of water and exquisite
gardens. Many years later a modern explorer came upon the city that was in wrack
and ruin and it was restored to its former beauty, opening to the public in
1992.
Sun City's Valley of Waves has a huge variety of activities for the golf escapee
including for instance the Sacred River Ride, the Temple of Courage, the
Adventure path to name but a few.
