July 20 - One of the UK's leading gaming groups, London Clubs International, has challenged its players to help make a worthy donation to the poor in South African townships.
LCI is running a campaign, A Deal 4 Africa, that will eventually see a 40 ft shipping container being filled with essential items, sent to South Africa and distributed among the needy.
LCI said that Portsmouth footballer and captain, the South African Aaron Mokoena, is working side by side with the group to ensure the smooth running of the campaign.
Mokoena grew up in the townships of South Africa and knows first hand how short the residents are of items such as clothes, books, sporting equipment and craft material.
The items will be distributed by the Emerald Charitable Foundation (founded by Emerald Casino resort) in the Gauteng province of South Africa.
The Head of Compliance at LCI, Roy Ramm was pleased to explain more about the campaign. "London Clubs International is passionate in our role to support charitable issues both in our local communities and overseas," he said. "The Emerald Foundation was founded by one of our international casinos in South Africa and they have done an invaluable job fundraising for the townships since opening in 2001."
LCI has challenged all ten of its casinos in the UK to fill 4ft out of the 40ft shipping container with goods. The collection part of the campaign runs until the end of August.
"Here in the UK, LCI has 10 casinos and a nationwide presence and therefore we appeal to all our customers, staff and of course members of the public who might be passing by one of our clubs to donate their goods," requested Ramm.
