Australia may have been crushed by the All Blacks last weekend to start their
2006 Tri-Nations campaign with an abysmal 32-12 loss, but they're still heavy
favourites to win Saturday's game against South Africa.
The match odds for the rugby test match, which will be played in Brisbane
are as follows:
Australia - 3/10
South Africa - 7/2
The Draw - 60/1
Rugby experts reckon that the Springboks are 10-point underdogs in this game.
They have never beaten the Australians in Brisbane, and have a poor away record
in recent years. South Africa is also coming off a big defeat against France
suffered on home soil. France beat South Africa 36-26 in the last test played by
SA.
Australia have an inexperienced front row and they were mauled by New Zealand
last time out in a one-sided game. The All Blacks are clearly going to be hard
to beat in this year's Tri-Nations. Australia do not expect thesame level of
opposition from South Africa, and they certainly have history on their
side.
South Africa, however, have selected a front row with plenty of experience and a
huge size advantage over the Wallabies. If they play well together up front and
control the tight phases of play South Africa could be in a good position to
record an upset win, or at the very least keep it close.
A good value bet, however, looks to be South Africa +10.5 points on the points
spread. This one should be fairly close, and although Australia will probably
win the game we'd be surprised if they pulled away from South Africa, and we
expect the victory margin to be closer to 7 points at the maximum.
