February 27 - Rugby fans are in for a treat between May and July this year after the British and Irish Lions confirmed their participation in ten matches against South African teams.
Tickets for the Castle South Africa 2009 Lions Series have gone on sale and organizers expect them to sell out very quickly. A total of 70,000 tickets were up for grabs this week in the second phase of the promotion. Tickets for seven out of the ten games in total have now been made available to the public.
South African Breweries stepped in to sponsor the Lions Series to the tune of R25 million, making this the most generous sports agreement in the history of South African rugby.
The Lions will play against two invitation sides, four provincial teams, the Springboks and the Emerging Springboks.
SAB Bok Towns will be established in several major cities in South Africa - at La Med in Cape Town, Montecasino in Johannesburg and the Suncoast Hotel in Durban.
"True rugby fans have been yearning for the traditional rugby tours," said the President of the South African Rugby Union, Oregan Hoskins, "and the British and Irish Lions Tour has earned a reputation as the last of the great rugby tours. So we are proud for Castle Lager to be associated with this prestigious event."
"This is a limited edition tour," continued Hoskins, "and everything about it is special. We want the Castle South Africa 2009 Lions Series to be the tour that stands the test of time."
Lions rugby betting will be available at
