April 17 - Here are our tips for this week's Super 14 matchups. Remember that
you can bet in Rands at
Ladbrokes.com,
Bet365.com and
VC Bet. The all take South Africa credit cards and are very well geared to
deal with South African customers (there's probably a 50/50 chance when you
phone their call centre that expat Jannie from Bloemfontein answers the call but
I digress.)
Chiefs v Crusaders, Dunedin on Friday
I read this week that some people think the Crusaders are due a bad game. The
Chiefs have been excellent in the last three rounds but you just cannot see the
Crusaders losing. They have Brett back at 10 and he played with maturity beyond
his years in the first three rounds. Will be close but too much class with that
red and black lot.

Reds v Force, Banjo City on Friday
I'll admit that I have enjoyed watching the Force play. They have been better
than their log position suggests and if they hadn't lost Gitaeu last well I
reckon they would have klapped the WorryTahs. Reds are just too bad to even
bother.

Waratahs v Lions, Sydney on Saturday
The Tahs are hitting their straps. They have a decent pack and Todd Louden's
influence on their backline is becoming apparent. Lote Tiquiri has actually
started playing again. Too much class for a diabolical Lions outfit who are
getting worse it seems.

Brumbies v Sharks, Canberra on Saturday
The Brumbies without Mortlock is a different prospect entirely. The Sharks
are grinding out wins but you can't see the Brumbies keep up with them. Could
this be the game where Michalak wakes up and shows us what he can do?
Sharks by 8 or more
Bulls v Highlanders, The Laager on Saturday
(Insert your favorite curse here). The Bulls are a blight on South African
rugby and all past Bulls teams. They only win because their opposition is so
crap.
Bulls by and ugly, uninspiring 5
Stormers v Hurricanes, Newlands on Saturday
This is going to be the match if the year so far. No doubt about it. The
Stormers are paying excellent rugby, and the Hurricanes delivered what we know
they are capable of against the Bulls (albeit with some help from the woeful
Bulls defense). The "all" All Black back row is awesome,
but the Stormers back row has fired more than most. The midfield battle will be
on to behold. Stormers are playing a more structured game and the Canes will
find it much harder to break the line than they did against the hapless Bulls.
Look for big games from Grant and Jantjes.
