February 18 - South African rugby fans are in for a treat with the kick off of
the 2008 Super 14 rugby championship series this month and, as staunch
rugby fans, we at GamblingSA will report all of the Super 14 results
throughout the championship.
For those of you who may be a little 'sketchy' on how the Super 14 rugby
championship works, we have included a short explanation of the tournament below to get you
up to speed and
on track so that you can follow the progress of your favourite team.
The Super 14 championship is arguably the most exciting rugby union championship
played annually by the world's greatest southern hemisphere teams. It runs for
three and a half months and is played by 14 provincial rugby sides from South
Africa (5), Australia (4) and New Zealand (5).
With no pool or divisional system, each of the Super 14 sides plays one another
in the manner of a 'round robin', which means that during each Super 14 season,
every team plays 13 games. They earn points and bonus points throughout the
championship depending on their wins, draws and losses.
By the end of the Super 14 season, the four teams ranked highest on the leader
board play in two semi-final matches to determine the two finalists. The final
of the Super 14 is traditionally played at the highest ranked team's home
ground, as opposed to a neutral venue in a neutral country.
That said, let's jump right into some highlights of this week's Super 14 games:
