April 28 - The Stormers took the first game of the weekend against the Highlanders, with an 18-11 victory in Carisbrook, Dunedin. This is the Stormers first victory there, and they also broke their four-match losing streak.
The Lions weren't as lucky as the Stormers, and fell prey to Western Force, with a 14-55 loss in Perth on Friday. The massive win for Force gave them their biggest winning margin in four years.
Saturday's match at North Harbour between the Reds and Blues turned out to be what is probably going to be the longest recorded match of the 2009 Super 14 tournament.
Just over 4 minutes into the game, two of the light towers went out, and the captains decided to stop play until sufficient lighting had been restored. 50 minutes later, the two teams ran back out onto the field, and the Reds ran off 76 minutes later, with a 31-24 victory over the Blues.
Helping the Hurricanes realize their dream of making the semi-finals of the Super 14 was the Brumbies in Wellington on Saturday.
Within the first 40 minutes, the Hurricanes had picked up their bonus point, and the Brumbies couldn't equal their tenacity, taking a 56-7 defeat, sending the Hurricanes to the top of the log.
Maybe it's playing on home soil, or beating the Sharks that has given the Cheetahs renewed hope in themselves. They beat former champions the Crusaders 20-13 on Saturday in Bloemfontein.
It hasn't moved them from bottom of the log, but in winning, they've kept the Crusaders out of the top four, helping out their fellow country-men the Bulls and Sharks.
The Bulls 33-27 win over the Chiefs in Pretoria on Saturday, has done one of two things. It's moved the Bulls back up the log to second place, and shattered the Chiefs six victory match.
By the end of the match, the Chiefs had been knocked off their throne, and moved down to third position on the log, after the Hurricanes snatched the to top spot earlier on in the day.
