January 14 - Sun City, synonymous with non stop entertainment, gambling and relaxation, has seen one of its top hotels go through a spectacular makeover. Sun International announced this week that the last renovation phase for the multi million rand renovation project on the Sun City Hotel has now been completed, and visitors will be bowled over by the transformation.
As part of the makeover, all 340 rooms were completely refurbished. In addition, significant changes were made to the casino, Sun Terrance restaurant, conference rooms, public areas and the signature feature of the hotel, Port Cochere.
The General Manager of the Sun City Hotel, Jo Kentgens said: "The hotel was in need of modernization and now it has a cutting edge look that brings in touches of Africa's exotic heritage yet with a more timeless and classical effect."
One of the most dramatic changes that took place during the renovation phase was the total removal of the Sky Train escalator and bridge at the front of the hotel to allow for improvements in the Port Cochere. A skylight has been fitted into the Port Cochere roof area and the canopy has been removed so that more daylight can find its way into the area.
The guest rooms were also completely redone, including the retiling of bathrooms, installation of new showers and Edwardian baths, as well as Panasonic flat screen TV sets.
New Milliken carpets were installed in all rooms, and the Milliken theme was carried through to the hotel lobby and casino.
"With the renovation now complete, the Sun City Hotel will more than adequately blend with the other hotels on complex," explained Kentgens. "Every person involved in the refurbishment thoughtfully considered the design, ambiance and true comfort of this great hotel experience. We welcome visitors to check into our newly refreshed Sun International offering, as we're sure to delight business and leisure travelers alike."
