November 13 - There was a time when rugby union was dominated by teams based in
the Southern Hemisphere, teams such as the All Blacks (New Zealand), the Wallabies
(Australia) and South Africa's own Springboks.
However, that time seems eons ago as the Springboks were yet again trounced,
this time by Ireland
32-15 at Lansdowne Road in Dublin over the weekend, the
loss
highlighting the enormous problem that seems to have grabbed hold of the South
African national rugby team in the past months.
The problems with the Springboks seem long and festering, as was clearly
demonstrated by the team's generally lack-luster performance in the recent
Tri-Nations series when the Bokke endured four consecutive defeats, including a
record-breaking 49-0 loss to Australia.
While South Africans are well known to support their national sporting teams
in good times and bad, many South African rugby supporters are getting fed up
with the Springbok's consistently poor performance and seemingly well-prepared
excuses by management.
Many fingers are pointing at South Africa coach, Jake White, who many critics
feel left out too many of South Africa's best players in this current
campaign.
However, there is semi-good news for the Springboks because they'll be facing
England this weekend at Twickenham who, like the Springboks, are also floating around in the rugby doldrums and in poor form.
What this means is that South Africa are in with a shot to beat England
provided, of course, they don't drop the ball.
