September 1 - There is rugby greatness.. and then there are the Springboks.
South Africa's rugby side continues to set the world in a tizz following its
fourth straight win in the Tri Nations series, after beating Australia in
Perth on Saturday.
The Springboks walloped the Wallabies in a 32-25 bonus point victory,
practically guaranteeing the Tri Nations title for itself.
But the Springboks, it seems, have set their sights higher than the title.
They want to se new standards in the rugby world that will, it seems, be hard to
beat.
Bryan Habana, Springbok winger, outlined the plan. "We've been lucky to be
able to achieve some great things as a team but his team isn't satisfied with
where we are at the moment," he said.
"We'd like to set standards for the rest of the world to follow, we'd like to
constantly produce games that people want to follow and respect."
"The greatest goal in life is not making it to the top, but trying to stay
there," he said philosophically. "So there is a real motivation from everyone
involved in the squad at the moment to carry on achieving, to carry on not only
being humble in what we have achieved but work even harder to make sure we go
forward and achieve a lot of greatness that this team thoroughly deserves."
Captain John Smit said that while there would always be teams before and
after that would argue that this is the greatest South African unit ever
assembled, "it's a great team to play in at the moment."
