13 October - Tomorrow's local horse racing meeting is at Turffontein and
features a full card of nine races on the inside track. Many of the races have a
wide-open look to them, but we have isolated two best bets and a bit of a 'roughie'
for those of you who enjoy betting on horses at value odds.
The ante-post betting for the entire card sees only one favourite that is
odds-on, but this horse certainly deserves to be in the red and should be hard
to beat. We speak of INGOT who runs in the 3rd race, a Maiden plate for stayers
over a testing 2600m.
Ingot has been knocking on the door for his debut win and
is a model of consistency with 7 places in 12 career starts. But he should be
able to break through in this race and give Gavin Lerena, the top apprentice
jockey, another winner.
Ingot is 8/10 in the betting and the only horse that looks able to challenge him
is Oscar Night, a filly that will be ridden by Johnny Geroudis for the Lowe
yard. The other horses in the field are moderate at best and this should be
Ingot's day in the sun.
Another horse that looks like a good bet on the card is STAR OF THE SEA, a filly
that runs in the 5th race for the powerful combination of Charles Laird and
Anton Marcus. This horse could turn out to be very special indeed and it could
be the last time you find her at odds as juicy as 2/1, which is her current
quoted price. If she's well we expect her to start a lot closer to Evens on the
day.
Star Of The Sea has had only one start and that was a facile victory when she
cruised home by 5 lengths. The extra 200m should suit - her maiden win came over
a mile and this is a more testing 1800m trip.
There are a couple of talented runners in the field, but her market rival should
need the run and this could be a banker for the Pick 6 and the Jackpot.
If you're looking for a good-value bet on the card then we recommend
GODSMUSTBECRAZY to win for Striker Strydom. This horse has a poor draw but
Strydom is the best in the business when it comes to piloting nags from wide
post positions, and this horse has the form to win.
Enjoy the day's racing and be sure to load up in your Pick 6 perms as we expect
at least one or two upset results of note!
