The South Africa vs Sri Lanka ODI match will take place in Paarl at
14:30 local time or 12:30 GMT under the floodlights, and punters are already
looking forward to the action.
There will be more ODI matches scheduled throughout January: The first ODI
being on the 11th, the second on the 14th in East London
and the third on the 17th in Bloemfontein.
The South African team is getting ready for their match with Sri Lanka and
has already named the 14 players who will be part of the ODI squad. These 14
players will play against the Lankans for the first 2 matches.
Sri Lanka have Shown their Mettle on this Tour
Sri Lanka have shown their mettle by winning a match in the test series and
proving that they are not an easy team to beat. However, after the last test
match, punters are well aware of which team is the frontrunner and as a result;
the odds have been based accordingly.
Bettors will be able to find good odds at top online sportsbooks like
Sportingbet and
Ladbrokes on dates closer to the actual events.
De Villiers, who captained the South Africa team and was injured in an
earlier match, is still optimistic that South Africa will take home the victory
for the first ODI.
The Sri Lankans have been known to be very competitive in these limited over
matches but South Africa also has players like Rory Kleinveldt and Elgar, who
may end up bringing in some big runs for the team. These two players are rather
new additions to the team and could give Sri Lanka a literal run for their
money.
Andrew Hudson, convener of selectors for South Africa, commented on the team.
“There have been a number of batsmen showing good form in domestic cricket, and
Elgar fully deserves his opportunity. He was the leading run-scorer in the
One-Day Cup (567 runs) and also had the best average (81). In addition he gives
us very useful bowling options as a left-arm spinner,” he said.
