December 5 - South Africa is to meet France, as well as Uruguay and Mexico in
next year's World Cup.
The hosting team will need to beat all three if it wishes to reach the final
16 places in the soccer extravaganza in 2010.
The draw for the finals was held at Cape Town's International Convention
Center on Friday evening, revealing the eight groups consisting of four nations
each.
The draw was hosted by South African born actress Charlize Theron and the
crowd was greeted by a bevy of celebrities, including FIFA President Sepp
Blatter, Cape Town mayor Dan Plato and the CEO of the Local Organizing
Committee, Danny Jordaan.
The waiting nations were also addressed by former President Nelson Mandela
ahead of the draw.
32 countries reached the qualifier round of the World Cup.
The full draw was announced as follows:
Group A: South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, France
Group B: Argentina, Nigeria, South Korea, Greece
Group C: England, United States, Algeria, Slovenia
Group D: Germany, Australia, Serbia, Ghana
Group E: Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Cameroon
Group F: Italy, Paraguay, New Zealand, Slovakia
Group G: Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast, Portugal
Group H: Spain, Switzerland, Honduras, Chile
