July 6 - In order to bring about further participation between the horse racing industries in Australia and South Africa, a long term partnership has been signed between Phumelela Gold Enterprises (PGE) and the Australian Tabcorp (with its racing broadcaster Sky Racing).
The partnership deal will ensure the reciprocal expansion of racing broadcasts between the two countries.
Totalisator pools will also be co-mingled as part of the joint venture.
Robert Nason, the Managing Director of Tabcorp said about the new deal: "This new partnership will further enhance the financial benefits to the Australian Racing Industry through its broadcaster Sky Racing, with the added benefits that will flow from the co-mingling of totalisator pools between the two countries."
South African punters will receive access to a wider betting range on the world famous Victorian TAB pools, while Tabcorp customers could also start wagering directly through South African pools through the SuperTAB pool.
South African betting rules will apply to Victorian customers who bet into this country's pools. Australians may find some concepts foreign to them, such as a 4th place dividend for races with over 16 starters.
A celebratory signing ceremony was held in Greyville at the Durban in July race on Sunday, where it was said that both Tabcorp and PGE (a joint venture between South African horse racing and the betting operators Pumelela and Gold Circle) would benefit from the partnership.
In addition, the South African and Australian horse racing industries and the millions of punters from both countries would be able to enjoy the new partnership.
