January 6 - The South African Rugby Union (SARU) will
reportedly announce the name of the new Springbok coach in the next few weeks,
after the contract with outgoing coach, Peter de Villiers, expired at the end of
last year.

SARU will name the new Springbok coach before the end of the month, as the
executive members of SARU are expected to meet on January 27.
As per the constitutional requirements of SARU, its executive council will
make a recommendation to its general council. If the recommendation is approved,
the name of the coach will be published in media reports. The meeting of the
SARU general council will be held after the executive council meeting.
There is a chance that Peter de Villiers' contract might be renewed - in
which case, many South African rugby supporters will no doubt commit Harakiri.
Simultaneously, the possibilities of a new coach being appointed cannot be ruled
out.
Candidates for New Springbok Coach
Any number of candidates might be named as the new Springbok coach, including
Gert Smal, the former Springbok flanker and Ireland assistant, as well as
Allister Coetzee, John Plumtree, and John Mitchell, all coaches of the Super
Rugby, feature in the list.
Plumtree and Mitchell both hail from New Zealand, and Mitchell has been both
the coach and player of the All Blacks team.
Media reports have also stated that Heyneke Meyer and Rassie Erasmas, who
have coached the Bulls and the Stormers respectively, are in the list of
potential candidates.
Once the new Springbok coach has been appointed, he will bear the
responsibility of appointing a new captain, and according to media speculations,
either Schalk Burger or Juan Smith might be appointed for that post.
A 12-test program has been scheduled for South Africa this year. The Boks
will play three home matches against England and three away matches in Britain
this November, which means plenty of betting opportunities for rugby fans.
