The 1st Test match kicked off on December 15th, which
the Proteas won by an innings and 81 runs to spare. This is the 2nd
match of the Sri Lanka Tour of South Africa 2011 and so far, it looks like SA
will be the winner of the test series.
The test series has been scheduled to be played in South Africa as per a
pre-announced cricket schedule and punters are already very excited about the
event.
It is an international bilateral series, which has been organized by South
Africa and comprises a series of three Tests and five ODI matches, spread out
over the months of December this year and January next year. The tour forms part
of the Future Cricket Tour Program (FTP) initiated by the International Cricket
Council (ICC).
Sri Lanka Has to Focus on Batting If They Want To Win
Since their recent defeat to South Africa, the Lankans may have realized that
they badly need to step up their game. According to Tillakaratne Dilshan, the
Sri Lanka team hopes to address its batting issues during this tour.
The team had hoped to experience the taste of success after ignominious defeats
in 1997 – 98, 2000 – 01, and 2002 – 03 but were unable to find their feet The
team has also not played test matches for a long time, having focused on one-day
series only in South Africa -0, which has been to no avail considering they lost
to SA with a difference of 81 runs!
Ever since Dilshan’s appointment as the captain of the Sri Lanka team, they
have been defeated by Australia, England, and Pakistan in the test series, and
recently by SA themselves. The captain can only hope that the team will win the
second test once it sorts out its batting issues and will be able to succeed in
the next test match.
What's more, the team has also not been paid properly since the end of the
World Cup in April although Mahindanda Altuthgamage and was caught up in several
issues regarding this, which have only recently started getting sorted out. Now,
it remains to be seen, whether South Africa will once again decimate the Lankans
in the test match or if the SL team can bounce back.
