March 12 - Ryan Dreyer is best known in South African poker circles as the editor of Bluff Magazine and the man who runs the All Africa Poker Challenge and the All Africa Poker Channel.
Dreyer is also well known on the player circuit for being a true champ, having won R2 million in a poker tournament at Sun City last year.
However, Ryan Dreyer decided to leave the felt and return to a new kind of green - the golf course. After nearly a decade of hanging up the clubs, Dreyer is back on the golf circuit in full swing and showing the industry exactly what he's worth
Dreyer spoke about his decision to leave the game of golf in 1996. "It got to the stage where I hated playing the game for a living and for a long time I didn't touch a club," he said.
"I knew that if I came back to golf, it wouldn't be at a social level," continued Dreyer. "I love to be competitive and I knew I had to play tournaments to get my juices going."
And go they did! Dreyer took on the Glacier South African Amateur at Benoni Country Club on Friday, beating Adrian Ford 5/3 in the 36 hole final
"For me this is a great achievement," said the 36 year old.
This is Dreyer's fourth tournament since the beginning of the year and besides his latest win, he came in third in the Central Gauteng Closed and 12th in the SA Strokeplay.
Nevertheless, Dreyer hasn't left the world of poker - describing himself as a "part time golfer" - and we are sure to see a lot of him in poker tournaments in the upcoming year
