September 17 - In a twist of fate, one of the resident commentators at the All
Africa Poker Channel, Ryan Brauer, beat out an impressive field at the R1
million Heads-Up Challenge held at Sun City recently, to walk away the
champion and a million bucks richer.
Not only did Brauer win the R1 million Heads-Up Challenge, but also came 6th at
the Sun City Main Event earning himself a further R231 000 in cash,
not a bad result for a few days work playing against some of the best poker pros
in Southern Africa.
The South African is proving to be one the country's most up-and-coming players
with a series of top tournament finishes in leading international poker
tournaments under his belt, including an impressive $150 000 first prize in a NL
Texas Hold'em event held in Las Vegas.
It seems that Brauer is one of the few poker commentators around today that
puts his 'money where his mouth is', and has earned a loyal fan
base that has followed his progress in his many endeavours including a 30th place
finish at the Aussie Millions where he won R230 000.
After his windfall Down Under, Brauer made an appearance back in Africa at the R2 250 000 All
Africa Poker Tournament hosted at the well-known Piggs Peak Casino in Swaziland
earlier this year, where he came second and took home a not-too-shabby R300 000.
