November 19 - The 2007 All Africa Poker Championship King has been crowned as 24-year-old
poker fan, Greg Ronaldson, who not only beat out a field of 111 players, but
also won R1 million in prize money and an all-expenses paid trip to play in the
2008 WSOP in Las Vegas, USA.
In July next year, Ronaldson has a guaranteed seat at the coveted 2008 World
Series of Poker Main Event, which, as the 'Wimbledon of the poker world, is
worth a massive $10 000, courtesy of Swaziland-based Piggs Peak Casino.
While the young gun has been a familiar face in South African poker circles of
late, up until this tournament Ronaldson's best position in a professional poker
was fourth. Of course, that as now all changed and he will be the South African
player to watch.
When it came down to the final table, Ronaldson found himself facing down 9
other players, all hungry to take home the 2007 All Africa Poker Championship crown and
sizeable winnings but when all was said and done, it all came down to an
exciting heads-up match.
Ronaldson kept his cool as it came down to the wire, and beat Michael Simoes,
who, although obviously disappointed, still went home with the second place
prize of R400 000 and a prize package to the 2008 World Series of Poker.
As for the rest of the final table results, Daniel Callighan came in third,
winning himself R300 000 as well as a prize package to the 2008 World Series of
Poker, Peter Kortleve who finished fourth, Jaco Mouton in fifth, Jaco Storm in
sixth, Clyde Sham in seventh, Barry Shum in eighth, Hennie Appel in ninth and
Andre Clarke in tenth place.
