Overview / How to Play
The first form of roulette was first devised in 17th century France. In the 1800's the "0" was added to the roulette wheel which increased the house odds. At a later stage yet another 0 was added - the "00". Within no time roulette was spread all over Europe and America and it became one of the most popular games. It is sometimes referred to as "King of Casino Games".
The game of roulette is derived from a French word meaning small wheel. The game is played with a small ball and a wheel which contains 36 slots, which the ball is able to slot into. These slots are coloured and numbered (1-36 and either black or red). The wheel is spun by the croupier, shortly afterwards the ball is spun into the roulette wheel in the opposite direction. When spinning slows down, players anxiously awaiting the outcome, the ball drops into one of the numbered slots.
So you fairly new to Roulette. You've seen the excitement at the tables in the casino and you know you can play online too and would like to give it a bash. Well, in case you are not too sure on how the game actually works, below you will find some information on the bets you can place in this great casino game. But before we get to that, lets take a quick look at the differences between American and European roulette:
There are actually 2 types of roulette, namely American and European roulette, the main difference being that the American version has 2 "0's". There is a "0" and "00". What this does is it increases the house advantage. So by
playing European roulette (with only 1 "0") the house has a lower advantage.
Another difference between the American and European version is that they also use chips differently. European roulette uses standard casino chips
which differ in values. Chips are the same value in American Roulette. A European roulette table is also larger than the American version.
