Overview / How to Play
So you walk into the casino and head for your favourite game, avoiding the craps table because you actually have no idea how the game works? Well, I was the same until recently, but decided to look into how this exciting game is actually played.
In essence the game consists of the table, shooter and a pair of dice. The dice are handled by the player in one hand only, are thrown and need to hit the walls of the table on the opposite end.
However bets can still can be placed if you do not want to throw the dice yourself - you can bet on the person throwing the dice. There are quite a few kinds of bets that can be placed at the craps table.
Ok, so basics out of the way - how is this game actually played?
Firstly a term you will need to know is the Come Out roll: This is the first roll of the dice in a betting round. A new game is started with the Come Out roll which is only made when the previous shooter (person throwing the dice) does not make the "Point" or "seven out".
If this is the case then a new game begins and a new player will take the role of the shooter.
If the shooter does not make his / her point then the dice are offered to the next player (which will be the person next to the left of the previous shooter) for a new Come Out roll.
The dice are rolled across the craps table which is split into three areas (2 side areas and a centre). On each side you will find the following:
Pass and Don't Pass line bets, Come and Don't Come bets, Odds bet, Place bets and Field bets. The
centre area is shared by both side areas and contains the Proposition bets.
The game of craps is not as difficult to understand as it seems at first, understanding the basics will set you well on your way. There are many different types of bets that can be placed on a craps table however most of them actually have pretty shabby odds. In order to get started all you will really need to master is the basic
Passline bet. Passline bet works as follows:
Passline Bet
A bet is placed on the Passline before a new shooter begins his/her roll - the come out roll. You win if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 but in the case of a 2, 3 or 12, you will lose your bet and if any other number is rolled then that number becomes the point number.
If this is the case then the shooter needs to roll that number again before a seven is rolled. In that case, you win even money for your
Passline bet but if a 7 is rolled before the point number is rolled again, you lose your bet.
If the shooter rolls a 7 before the 6 the pass line bet will lose and the dice are then passed to the next
player.
