January 15 - Why is it that sportspeople, who let's face are not always the
sharpest of folks, feel they need to open mouths and make stupid comments that
will inevitably land them in hot water?
If you can answer that question then you can probably answer my next one which
is how George W. Bush was voted in as President not once but twice?
But back to stupid sports people. I am of course referring to the
incident(s) of racist or at least inappropriate remarks made by a member of the
South African cricket team known as the Proteas yesterday (Sunday, January 14th)
during a test match against Pakistan at Centurion's Super Sport Park stadium.
The player in question was allegedly overheard by a cricket stump microphone
making abusive and racist remarks about Pakistan fans, prompting SA cricket bosses
to review the incident today.
Mickey Arthur, coach for the Proteas, commented that the remarks made and
overheard by the crowd at Centurion supposedly 'sparked' disorderly behaviour by
certain members of the crowd resulting in the eviction of seven cricket fans.
Mickey Arthur, Haroon Lorgat and Proteas media manager Gordon Templeton are
expected to review footage of the incident and make a statement later today.
Lodge Security events manager Trevor Jacobs said that members of the Proteas
complained about being sworn at by members of the public supposedly prompting the
comments
by the player which were then caught on the stump microphone.
However folks, we here at GamblingSA feel that a certain amount of
aggression and animosity is part of all sports even the gentlemen's game of
cricket and that our highly paid players should rise above it and not be a part
of it.
This is why we feel the player in question is stupid. But what do you think?
