May 26 - Following close on the heels that the World Series of Poker will be making a stop for the first time ever in South Africa during this season's schedule, comes the news that the Poker Channel will also be expanding to South Africa.
The Poker Channel, which remains one of Europe's oldest and most watched TV gaming networks, announced its expansion to the African and South American continents earlier this week.
The Channel, which was launched in 2005 out of its base in the United Kingdom, broadcasts over 20 different countries, primarily on the European continent and boasts over 20 million subscribers.
South African viewers will be treated to daily coverage of top poker tournaments that run in Europe and America, beginning June 7th.
The network will be telecast through digital satellite and will be available to over two million subscribers in the country.
Argentineans will also be able to view over six hours of daily programming.
"This is our first step into Latin America and Africa and a huge milestone for us and our partners," said the Managing Director for the Poker Channel, Chris White.
"It shows the desire to play and watch poker continues to grow around the world," said White. "We're working with the best local television companies and poker rooms in the region to televise top tournaments, help viewers improve their game and choose where to play."
