October 16 - GrandWest Casino, which celebrates its 7th birthday this year, has
earned the title of the biggest casino and leisure centre in Southern Africa as
well as the most successful.
With the opening of their fantastic new multi-purpose arena towards the end of
the month, the current visitor stats of 6 million visitors per year should rise
even more steeply.
GrandWest Casino is the second most visited leisure destination in the Western Cape,
the first being the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, with Table Mountain,
Kirstenbosch, Robben Island and the Winelands following behind.
The expansion project said to be worth R450-million includes the 5000 to 7000
capacity arena - which can host many different types of events from concerts and
theatre to indoor sports and banquets - and has versatile seating and staging
allowing for multiple configurations as well as technologically advanced
acoustics, being a huge draw-card for international event organizers.
GrandWest Casino boasts a smoking casino, brand new Salon Priv?1100 undercover parking bays, extra
restaurants, a ten pin bowling alley, improved kiddies area and other family
activity amenities are all part of the expansion. The existing casino main floor
has also been through a major upgrade, and to ease the traffic congestion, new
entrances and exits have been added to the property.
The existing Good Hope Suites and the Market Hall venue are suitable for holding
meetings, exhibitions and other small to medium sized events.
The GrandWest Casino arena will open on 21 October with a star studded line up of excellent
international acts. Mary J Blige is set to kick off the opening, with Enrique
Iglesias, Gladys Knight, Jethro Tull, Pat Metheney and Regina Bell following hot
on her heels.
Popular local talent such as Freshly Ground and Kaapse Jol will also be
performing at the arena. All information regarding the events, including
tickets, is available though Computicket.
