November 29 - Today (Thursday, November 29, 2007), the annual Nedbank Golf Challenge
kicks off at the 7 162m-long Gary Player
Country club course, situated at the magnificent Sun City casino and
resort, where the winner will walk away $1.2 million richer in a few days.
World number 5, Ernie Else is pursuing another win after a record 4 triumphs in
the challenge. He is the highest ranked golfer in the line-up. Others in the
line-up include Adam Scott from Australia (ranked number 6), Justin Rose of
England (ranked number 8) who was at the top of the 2007 European Tours Order of
Merit after winning the Volvo Masters.
Rory Sabbatini of South Africa who is ranked number 11, Geoff Ogilvy of
Australia (13), Henrik Stensen of Sweden (16), Luke Donald of England (17) and
Niclas Fasth of Sweden ranked at 19 are all chasing the $1.2 million first
prize. Fasth was a last minute replacement for Jim Furyk of the US who had to
withdraw due to a neck injury. Furyk is the defending champion and won the
challenge in 2005 as well.
Padraig Harrington from Ireland and two time winner Sergio Garcia from Spain
also pulled out. Harrington because he needs to be with his pregnant wife and
Garcia who is exhausted after a tough year. Trevor Immelman of South Africa has
replaced Garcia and American Stewart Cink has replaced Harrington. South
Africans Retief Goosen and Charl Schwartzel complete the line-up.
For those who are not going to be watching the golf, or spending time gambling
at the famous Sun City Casino, there is a myriad of other activities to take
part in at Sun City. Take the Outdoor Adventure Centre which is in the Letsatsing Game Park
bordering the Pilanesberg National park, for
those who enjoy a more rigourous time out.
There is quad biking with skilled guides who take bikers through ravines and
crevices that are not accessible on foot. Animals such as rhino, giraffes
amongst others are often spotted. There is also clay target shooting, archery

As for the golf, record numbers of spectators are expected at Sun City, so buy
