May 15 - Despite the economic conditions in South Africa and the rest of the world, Montecasino's parent company, Tsogo Sun, announced that it will be investing a further R700 million in expanding the hotel and casino complex in time for the 2010 World Cup event.
The new venture with hotel operators, Southern Sun, will include a new luxury hotel, the Pivot, office blocks and conference centers.
It was confirmed by the group chief executive of Tsogo Sun, Jabu Mabuza, that the new venture would bring to R2.5 billion the amount spent by the group on the Montecasino complex to date.
Montecasino is considered one of South Africa's leading entertainment locations and attracts millions of players to its luxury hotels, international standard conference facilities and top notch gambling options.
A staggering 30,000 people pass through the complex's doors each and every day - around 9 million each year!
According to Mabuza, the Pivot will be the first custom build Southern Sun hotel constructed in 20 years, showing just how much the group believes in the future and strength of the South African economy.
Some of the features scheduled for the new complex include:
* Nearly 200 rooms, many of them 'double doubles' for added luxury
* 120 seater specialty restaurant
* Outdoor leisure area, including pool
* Lounge and lobby bar
* 1400 sq meter conference center
* Retail outlets
* 14,000 sq meter triple A grade office development
The new hotel is due to open in May 2010.
