Following South Africa's defeat, coach Peter de Villiers announced that he
was stepping down after leading the Springboks since 2007. It also marked the
end of the careers of two of the Bok's most capped players, Victor Matfield and
John Smit.
And now, with the Boks out of the competition, all the attention has been
diverted to the two semi final matches to be played out this weekend in New
Zealand, and which will determine which teams meet in the Rugby World Cup
finals.
Popular online bookmakers,
Ladbrokes have odds of 2/5 listed that New Zealand
will beat Australia in their semi finals match on October 16th, with 9/4 on an
Australian victory and 22/1 on a draw.
Ladbrokes Rugby World Cup Odds have evens on a French victory over
Wales in their match on the 15th, and 5/6 for the Welsh side to win. A draw
pays out 20/1.
All Blacks Touted Over Wallabies in RWC
The general feeling is that the All Blacks will beat the
Wallabies in the Rugby World Cup semifinals this weekend.
Bookies believe that the All Blacks have the depth to cover
their injury issues and have looked efficient throughout the tournament. They
say that while Australia was resolute in their defense against the Springboks
and took their few chances, they were also very lucky. Many are of the opinion
that the Wallabies will be physically exhausted from their quarterfinals game
and may struggle to muster the firepower in their forwards to beat the All
Blacks.
In the meantime, online sportsbooks are fearing a "nightmare
scenario" if Wales lifts the trophy in the Rugby World Cup finals, after the
team's odds were slashed to 11/2.
During the summer months, the Welsh side carried odds of only
80/1 to win the World Cup, following a sluggish start to the warm up matches.
When France beat England at Eden Park in the quarter finals,
they upset the odds and showed that they are at their most dangerous when they
are in apparent disarray.
