Jake White Eyes Former Rugby Job

September 8 - After another loss against Australia in Bloemfontein this weekend, it seems the Springboks are heading for one of their worst years.

It is believed that the main reason for their string of defeats in the Tri Nations tournament is the fact that there is a cloud of uncertainty hanging over the team with regards to their coach.

There have been continuous calls for the dismissal of controversial coach, Peter de Villiers, with the latest coming in a roundabout way from former Springboks coach, Jake White.

White was the man responsible for bringing the team to victory in the 2007 Rugby World Cup, and he believes he can do it again at the 2011 event, given half the chance.

Jake White told the media on Monday that he would be ready to step into the role of interim coach for 12 months - enough time to train the Boks back into shape in time for the next World Cup.

However, he believes - as he always has - that the best man for the job in the long run is current coach for Western Province, Allister Coetzee.

"Allister was the man who should have been appointed to replace me after the last World Cup," he said. "I said so at the time, and I remain convinced about that."

"But I think it might be a bit unfair on Allister, or anyone else for that matter, to be brought in on a 12 month contract and expected to fit it in that space of time with no guarantee that they will stay on beyond the World Cup," he said. "When you take over the national job, you do need a bit of time to grow into it."

As such, White believes that he fits the bill to step in as coach for the 12 month period, as he has already been in the spot and knows the team.
