IPL Betting Gets Underway As 2011 Season Starts

April 9 - The fourth season of the Indian Premier League started yesterday and the IPL 4 (as it is known by all the cool kids) certainly got off to a flyer with a corker of a game between Kolkata and Chennai.

The Chennai Super Kings made 153/4 in their 20 overs. The Kolkata Knight Riders came desperately close but ended on 151/7 and lost by 2 runs. Kallis was the star for the Knight Riders, but it was all in vain thanks to some brilliant bowling at the death by Southee for the Super Kings.

This season sees two new teams added to the IPL to increase the league to 10 overall. They are the Pune Warriors and the Kochi Tuskers, and bookies rate them highly enough.

Pune were trading at 17/2 in the outright market, while Kochi were 10/1. The odds for this market will update after the first round of games, but this was the betting for the top ranked teams immediately before the league started:

Mumbai - 9/2
Chennai - 11/2
Bangalore - 6/1
Kolkata - 13/2

The past three seasons of the IPL have seen a different champion crowned each time. It's a wide open league once again, and there should be plenty of brisk cricket betting action aimed at IPL 4.
