April 15 - There seems to be non stop sporting action in Cape Town this year, with a number of international events bringing the Mother City - and the country at large - into the global spotlight.
In fact, many consider Cape Town - blessed with magnificent weather and gorgeous views - to be the top sport destination for players and spectators alike.
One only needs to examine the sporting world's calendar to understand the type of action that will take place in Cape Town throughout this year and spilling over into next year.
Cape Town has been slated to host the opening match of the Indian Premier League tournament that was relocated to South Africa over security concerns. The match opens this exciting tournament on April 18th, and the Mother City is full of Indian celebrities, Bollywood stars and some of the best Indian players in the world.
Later this year, the Lions Tour rugby and the FIFA Confederations Cup football matches will take place in South Africa, bringing even more players and visitors to Cape Town.
And all of this, of course, is only a taste of things to come when the long awaited World Cup kicks off in South Africa in 2010. Tens of thousands are expected to visit South Africa and attend matches in various cities, Cape Town included, during the course of the competition.
The Indian Premier League runs from April 18 to May 24.
The 2009 British and Lions tour begins on May 30, with matches held in Cape Town on June 13 and 23.
The Confederations Cup tournament will run from June 14 to 28 at four locations in South Africa.
