GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World is an entertainment complex
owned by the Sun International Group. In line with the latest trend, it offers
far more than just a casino. There is a four-star hotel, an ice skating rink,
and an entertainment area that contains fairground attractions such as a rollercoaster,
merry-go-rounds, go-kart racing, mini-golf and, for the PC generation, banks
of video games.
For those who prefer passive entertainment there are cinemas,
a dance club and a live music venue with a jazz flavour. Numerous restaurants
and pubs dot the complex and there is a creche so that parents can take some
time off to enjoy everything on offer. There are a variety of shops - among
them clothing and jewellery shops, a tobacconist, a bookshop and a sweet shop.
The design theme captures the vintage days of Cape Town's past, with building
facades reflecting traditional Cape Town architecture. The casino itself is
of late Victorian design, and boasts over 60 tables offering blackjack, American
roulette, Raise 'em Poker, Punto Banco and 1750 slot machines, including African
themed slots such as African Express.
