January 29 - Top South African golfer, Retief 'The Goose' Goosen spent much of
yesterday (Sunday, 28th January) fending off Australian players Richard Green
and Nick O'Hern at the 2007 Commercialbank Qatar Masters golf tournament.
While by the end of the third round Goosen and Green remain at the top of the
day's leader board, they were soon joined by Nick O'Hern when the Aussie upped
his play on the back nine to include three birdies resulting in an impressive 69
score.
After a bad start, Goosen showed Qatar golfing fans why is a top-rated golfer
when he made three consecutive birdies from the 15th hole to ensure he remains
on course to snatch victory.
At one point, however, Green moved into a two-shot lead with four impressive
birdies and just one bogey. However, an unfortunate double bogey on the 18th put
him on a 71 score, and 12 under overall.
Snapping at the heels of these three players, however, is Swede Henrik Stenson
and Qatar Masters defending champion, who showed good form to end with an
impressive 70, putting him just two behind the leaders.
Alongside Stenson in joint second place is American Edward Michaels who has
played an impressive three rounds considering this is his first competitive
tournament in over a year due to a lingering shoulder injury.
In today's fourth and final round, all eyes will be on The Goose to see if he
can hang on to become the new Commercialbank Qatar Masters champion.
