 November 12 - A mammoth and costly project to turn
Gold Reef City Casino into of
one of Johannesburg's hottest gambling and entertainment destinations has almost
reached completion with the visitors expected to be blown away by the dramatic
'facelift'.
The R450 million revamp and refurbishment of Gold Reef City Casino kicked off 18
months ago, which has not only seen the casino complex receive an 'extreme
makeover', but also a complete re-brand in terms of a dynamic new image and
logo, 'Pure Jozi Pure Gold'.
Said Gold Reef Resorts CEO, Steven Joffe, 'We initially conceptualised the
upgrade of Gold Reef City Casino six years ago, and are extremely proud that it
has now almost reached fruition, turning this leading Johannesburg casino into a
world class gambling and entertainment destination.'
As part of the upgrade, Gold Reef City Casino boasts the brand new Lyric
Theatre, a luxurious 1100-seat entertainment venue designed to host all manner
of live stage productions, from plays to pop concerts, with state-of-the-art
sound and lighting systems.
Staying true to the heritage of Gold Reef City, the Lyric Theatre has been
designed in a classical style reminiscent of the extravagant opera houses of
old, complete with plush features and fittings that will transport audiences
back in time to the 'old world'.
Gold Reef City Casino also has a new smoking casino area called Barney's,
that boasts 15 gaming tables and 570 slot machines in an atmosphere reminiscent
of an old Victorian gentleman's club that would have been prevalent during the
times of the great gold rush.
There is also a new fast food court that boasts popular South African fast-food
eateries, Steers, KFC and Debonairs, as well as a new and improved games arcade
for the younger members of the family,
