March 11 - The All Africa Poker Tournament, which has become a popular event for poker players in South Africa and from around the globe, was held recently at Piggs Peak Hotel and Casino at the beginning of the month.
The event, with a guaranteed prize pool of R3.5 million, promises to make one grand winner an instant millionaire and add him or her to the tournament's Millionaires Club.
The last event attracted 113 players, all of them with eyes on the cool R1 million up for grabs as first prize.
The tournament proceeded with over 20 hours of entertaining poker play, until the final table was announced.
Players at this table were as follows: Stewart Riley, Deon Minnaar, Steven Brown, Franco Lottering, Aston Soon Shiong, Kevin Stani, Lino Pestana, Gareth "No Fear" Kalil, Jonathan Voss and Reshaan Naidoo.
It was a particularly frustrating tournament for Brian Welman, who was eliminated in 11th place. Nevertheless, he earned himself a seat to the All Africa Poker Tournament in May this year.
After an intense final table game, the heads up match was played out between Kalil and Voss with a 985,000 chip stack compared to Kalil's more impressive 2,160,000 chips.
Kalil's final hand, which consisted of three tens, finally took him to victory, with a R1 million prize in his back pocket.
Piggs Peak in Swaziland has already announced that the next All Africa Poker Tournament will be held from May 21st - 24th.
