November 4 - After an amazing final in the Currie Cup inter provincial
rugby championships over the weekend, Springbok scrum half Fourie du Preez
went on to take on another victory, albeit more personal this time.
Du Preez, who many consider to be the best Number Nine in the world of sport,
was named South Africa Rugby Player of the Year.
The prestigious title was handed to Du Preez, among with other top players at
a black tie event in Johannesburg this week.
Du Preez has had a fantastic three days, capped off of by his new title.
The player orchestrated three beautiful tries in the game against the Free
State Cheetahs on Saturday to help the Blue Bulls win the Currie Cup on
Saturday.
Bulls fans were agog with glee over Du Preez's tap penalty try, his pass and
kick ahead that took their team to victory in a 36-24 win in Pretoria.
Du Preez has enjoyed a fantastic year as Springbok team member, helping the
Boks defeat the British and Irish Lions, as well as winning the Tri Nations
against New Zealand and Australia.
Not surprisingly, the Springboks was voted the Rugby Team of the Year, while
their coach, Peter de Villiers was voted Coach of the Year.

follows:
Players' Player of Year: Morne Steyn
Young Player of the Year: Henrich Brussow
Super 14 Player of the Year: Morne Steyn
Currie Cup Player of the Year: Luke Watson
Vodacup Cup Player of the Year: Jonathan Mokoena
