October 16 - Even though Saturday's rugby Currie Cup final in Bloemfontein
between the Blue Bulls and the Cheetahs ended in a draw with 28 all after extra
time, the game was nail-bitingly exciting right up until the final whistle.
When the game kicked off at Bloem's Vodacom Park stadium, the capacity crowd
(looking very orange) cheered on their home team which pulled into an early lead
with two penalties from De Waal.
The Bulls responded shortly afterwards with three points from Derick Hougaard,
but were soon smarting after an ultra-slick try by the Cheetahs thanks to a try
by Philip Burger, set up by Kabama Floors and Richardt Strauss.
Even with De Waal failing to convert, the Cheetahs were 14-3 ahead of the Bulls.
However, not a team to give up, the Bulls began to chip away at the Cheetahs'
lead, and an eventual try by JP Nel, converted by Morn?teyn, put the Bulls
into a 15-14 lead.
The two teams continued to play hard and trade points until at full time the
score was 25-25. Even with 20 minutes of extra time, the first extra time
allotted to a Currie Cup final in the history of the tournament, the final
result was a tie at 28-28, drawing the Currie Cup to an exciting close until next year.
