October 4 - Ernie Els is expected to lead the contingent of South African
golfers at this year's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which kicks off this
week at the famous St Andrews golf course in Scotland.
Ernie is one of 21 South Africans who will be playing at the prestigious event
at possibly the world's most famous and revered golf course, including the
talented young player, Alan Michell.
He and the other South Africans have travelled to St Andrews for the celebrity
pro-am event, which will be played on the three classic links layouts of the Old
Course at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie.
Celebrities include Morné du Plessis, Boris Becker, Ian Botham, Sir Bobby
Charlton, Sean Fitzpatrick and Kyle MacLachlan too name just a few.
Said Michell, 'This is the first time I've played Carnoustie and I can honestly
say it's a beast. It was very difficult, and the wind wasn't even blowing. I
can't imagine what it's like when the wind does blow.'
Ernie placed second at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 2001 and 2003.
