July 10 - Thirty year old rugby player Chris Jack starts with Western Province on Saturday in the opening match against the Sharks.
Jack believes that his stint with Province will help his future career as a member of the All Blacks Squad - a spot he hopes to regain after his Currie Cup experience.
"I've always heard about the Currie Cup and I know it is tough and competitive," said Jack. "The rugby here is similar to New Zealand's, so hopefully this will be the stepping stone back there. I feel I still have some unfinished business, so I want to be part of New Zealand rugby."
Chris Jack recently signed a new contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union.
His dream is to play in his third World Cup event that will take place in 2011.
Referring to Sharks captain Springbok Johann Muller, Jack said: "Johann is a very good player. I've played against him many times before in the Super 14 and in Tests. He's an expert at what he does, so it will be tough."
It is expected that once Chris Jack settles in with his new team, he will be able mentor the younger WP forwards such as Pieter Myburgh and Hilton Lobberts.
"Once I'm settled, I will be able to help the other players with my game experience and knowledge and I hope to learn from them too," he said.
Jack will pair with Anton van Zyl, who recently transferred from the Golden Lions to WP, in the second row.
