April 29 - Champions Day will be held at Turffontein race course this Saturday, and one hopes that fans of horse racing will support this fabulous day both in person at the track and by swelling the pools.
We're expecting a massive Pick Six pool on the day, and with no less than nine graded races on the card it should be memorable to watch whether we catch the P6 or not!
The feature race is the R2,000,000 President's Champions Challenge. It will be run over 2000m (10 furlongs) and has attracted a top class field. The highlight of the day's racing, however, is sure to be Igugu's bid to become the first winner of the Triple Tiara. She runs in the SA Oaks, and is expected to win as she likes.
The feature race looks to be a match between the impressive filly Dance With The Devil and the Mike de Kock runners (Rudra, Captain's Wild, and Flirtation). The latest betting shows Dance With The Devil a narrow favourite at 2/1 with Rudra at 9/2, Captain's Wild at 11/2, and Flirtation at 8/1.
Igugu is a ridiculous 1/7 to win the Oaks.
The Pick Six is the bet to take on Saturday and here is our free betting guide and tips for Saturday's card:
RACE 4 (LEG 1) - Sean Tarry's lean spell looks to be over, finally, and he can win the first leg with either of his two runners. There is a slight preference for Captain's Girl but Give Me Five will be right there as well. Beyond this coupling one also has to include Matchett's three runners as well as the Woodruff coupling. A decent long shot for this race is Delightfull Diva. Go with 1,3,7,9.
RACE 5 (LEG 2) - First Gr 1 race of the day, the Computaform Sprint should be dominated by the 3yr old colts as well as Val De Ra, the Drier filly. But it is impossible to look beyond What A Winter. His Cape form places him head and shoulders above all other sprinters in this field. He is a confident selection to win and should be a banker on the day. Go with 13.
RACE 6 (LEG 3) - This race should be dominated by the De Kock runners Alderry and Fisani. Quick Single and Bedloe's Island are worth including for bigger tickets. Take 1,4,6.
RACE 7 (LEG 4) - An Igugu benefit? Probably. But it couldn't hurt to add the Woodruff coupling for extra insurance. Play 1 and 3 here.
RACE 8 (LEG 5) - The SA Derby looks wide open. Respect both the Cape raiders, English Garden and Top Seller. Include all the couplings as well as Ice Flag. Take 1,2,3,4,8, and 9.
RACE 9 (LEG 6) - An easy looking leg for Pick Six punters. We'll side with Dance With The Devil and the De Kock entry. Bigger tickets should consider adding 1 and 2 as well. Take 1,2,3 and 4.
This Pick Six costs R576 for 100% of 1 ticket.
We recommend betting on these races and all other SA sporting events at Sportingbet South Africa, the most professional locally run online bookmaker.
