June 7 - Bookies made a killing in the cricket match between England and the Netherlands in the UK's first match in the Twenty20 ICC World Cup.
England was absolutely positive that victory against the Dutch teams was in its hands. Not only was the English team playing host to the Netherlands at Lords, but Netherlands as a country does not rank cricket at the top of its popular sport list (coming in a measly 25th).
Nevertheless, a country that can only boast 5,000 cricket players overall, managed to put together a team that beat England in its diabolical performance in the start to the Twenty20 international cricket event.
England will now need to beat another powerhouse, Pakistan. In addition, the team needs to pray that that Netherlands does not beat its opposition, if it has any chance whatsoever of moving into the Super Eights.
At present, Pakistan is posted as favorites over England (-125 versus -115), but although the odds in their favor are slight, it should be told that the Pakistani team is chockablock full of Twenty20 experts.
Sporting analysts have called England's performance against the Netherlands disappointing, with failures on many fronts and a bowling attack that lacked all penetration.
In order for England to advance further, these analysts say, the team will need to inject an element of aggressiveness into their game play, especially the batting line. It was noted that despite the fact that the game was played out on one of the country's smallest cricket grounds, the English team failed to hit a six against the Netherlands.
Twenty20 cricket was first introduced by the UK in 2003 and involves each team with single innings and each team batting for a maximum of 20 overs.
The first World Twenty20 event opened in South Africa in 2007.
