July 29 - A stunning victory for the Springboks in Bloemfontein over the weekend had the rival's coach singing their praises.
Graham Henry admitted that "the Springboks played better than us" in the Tri-Nations Test that took place on Saturday.
"I first of all want to congratulate South Africa on their victory," said Henry at a press conference after his team's defeat. "They were the better team and deserved to win."
Henry admitted that mumbles of altitude problems and the timing between previous matches were no reason for the All Blacks to fall so hard in the Tri-Nations Test.
"There are no excuses," he said adamantly. "We have no complaints about the altitude or the turn around time between last week's Test against the Wallabies and today's. This is a very good Springbok side. They deserve to be number one in the world."
When asked what went wrong with his team's performance, Henry said that overall, the All Blacks required more composure and discipline. He also believed that they could have tried to create more opportunities. "A side can't afford to make errors when you have the ball," he said.
But he also added: "We lost the battle, not the war."
Springbok coach, Peter de Villiers congratulated his own team on the win, especially praising their discipline and organization.
"Hats off to the tight five," he said. "I think the positive approach helped, we knew we had to create our own chances."
And kudos to Graham Henry for taking it like a man!
