India is the current world champion in this format of the game. Meanwhile,
Sri Lanka is the runner up and Australia has won the ICC ODI Championship four
times in the past. Therefore each of the teams has a point to prove which will
ensure that the contest is closely fought.
The Australian ODI Tri Series, whose chief sponsor is the Commonwealth Bank,
has been the highlight of the Australian summer cricket season for decades. It
is contested by Australia and two touring teams. It was last held in the 2007-08
season and discontinued thereafter. Now, the Tri Series is making a comeback and
is sure to appeal to cricket fans all over the world.
The fixtures for the Commonwealth Bank Series have been announced. The ODI
Tri Series starts with a match between Australia and India at Melbourne on
Sunday, February 5. Then, over the course of the next month, 12 ODI cricket
matches will be played which means each team plays the other two a total of four
times each. The top two teams will then play off in a best of three final games.
Cricket fans and punters across the cricket world are closely following the
selections for the three teams and some interesting news and reactions have
emerged so far. The Australian pace bowler James Pattison is hoping to be fit
for the latter half of the Commonwealth Bank Series after he sustained a foot
injury in the recent Sydney Test against India.
It was reported that Australian wicket keeper Brad Haddin is being rested
after the gruelling schedule of the past months. However, Haddin has been
reported saying that he feels he's been dropped for poor form.
One of the points of interest in the Commonwealth Bank Series will be whether
Sachin Tendulkar gets his 100th century. Tendulkar has scored 99
centuries in Tests and ODIs combined, but has been struggling for over a year to
get to this landmark.
