November 26 - Earlier this month major South African bank, ABSA, signed a
sponsorship agreement with the world's leading cash access services provider,
the US-based firm of Global Cash Access Inc. (GCA), in order to facilitate credit
card advances in South African casinos.
The sponsorship will allow GCA to process VISA and MasterCard cash advances in
all of the country's main land casinos in order to offer South African gambling
fans added convenience, and bring them in line with the over 1000 major land casinos
that GCA currently services globally.
Said ABSA Bank Card Merchant Services product manager, Marius Liebenberg, 'We at
ABSA are very excited about this new strategic partnership with GCA, and are
confident that their proven experience and technology will greatly benefit South
Africa's growing gambling industry.'
According to leading accounting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers, gambling revenues
increased by almost 17 percent in 2006 and, with one the fastest-growing
gambling markets in the world, should reach an estimated $2.7 billion in
gambling revenues by as early as 2011.
Said GCA spokesperson, Scott Dowty from the company's Las Vegas-based
headquarters, 'We are extremely happy to have entered into this agreement with
ABSA as one of Africa's largest banks, and are confident that together we'll be
able to
offer great service to South Africa's casinos and their patrons.'
