the lead driver for the Lotus team, seems confident in his chances in the 2012
Bahrain Grand Prix, as he has always driven well at the venue.
Raikkonen is Fond of the Bahrain Grand Prix
Raikkonen, who won the F1 championship in 2007 driving for Ferrari, has
finished in second and third places in Bahrain and knows the track well. He said
the track has a mixture of corners with some opportunities for overtaking, and
as such is looking forward to the big race.
In the recently concluded Shanghai Formula 1 Grand Prix, despite being in
second place at one time, Raikkonen finished 14th as a result of a disasterous
Referring to his fiasco in Shanghai, he jokingly added, ďItís likely to be
quite hot and our car didnít like the cold so much when we were in China so
maybe the heat will suit us better.Ē
Lotus will be making some upgrades on the car and if they work properly
Raikkonen will be able to improve on his speed. He is expecting a podium finish
and his fans desperately want to see the Raikkonen of old who took Michael
Schumacher at his best head on.
In 2011, the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix had to be cancelled because of political
disturbances that could have led to a law and order problem, and a similar
situation is threatening to scupper the 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix as well.
However, the FIA is satisfied that the necessary security measures are in
place and thus decided to go ahead with the event. However, many in the media
believe that the problems in Bahrain are latent and the Grand Prix event may
create an undesirable flash point.
