One of the most anticipated events for Rugby fans in South Africa is the 2009 British and Irish Lions Tour. Let's be frank. There's unfinished business here after the disastrous series loss to the Lions in 1997.
The very first official tour by the Lions took place to South Africa in 1910. The Lions got their name from the emblem on the players' jersey during the war. Regardless of the professional era and a lot of focus on the Ruby World Cup, Lions tours still capture the imagination of rugby fans all over the world. The 1997 and 2001 tours were proof of this.
In 2005 the Lions tour was the most popular with over 30,000 travelling fans following Sir Clive Woodward and his team.
Fast forward to 2009 and this is a mouthwatering tour. The Boks are the World Champions after all.
The tour kicks off on May 30 against a Highveld XV, and there are a total of seven mid-week games. Betting action will however be focused around the three test matches on June 20, June 27 and July 4.
At the time of writing the Lions squad had not been announced. However, the huge management teams will be lead by some big names including Head Coach Ian McGeechan, forwards coach Warren Gatland and Rob Howley as backs coach (as has been customer with the Lions there will be about one manager of some sort per player but these are the guys that matter).
We here at Gamblingsa.com are climbing out of our skins about this tour and will strive to bring you all the latest British & Irish Lions betting news, tour updates, team news and the best places to bet on the Lions Tour to South Africa in 2009.
